Zokay-owned GPI acquires HendonMob
Zokay CEO Alex Dreyfus describes UK site's poker database as "the best in the world"
The Global Poker Index has announced the acquisition of live-tournament database site The Hendon Mob (THM) for an undisclosed sum which eGR understands to be seven figures.
GPI was acquired by Zokay Entertainment from previous owner Pinnacle Entertainment last year and will add to its database of poker tournament information with THM’s database of more than 250,000 players and 70,000 tournaments.
The acquisition comes as part of Zokay’s pledge to invest more than US$3m in its existing and future assets, which also include the Fantasy Poker Manager app that launched on Facebook in January and iOS last month.
“The Hendon Mob poker database is the best in the world, without a doubt. We plan to support and grow this tremendous asset,” GPI chief executive Alex Dreyfus (pictured) said.
“The Hendon Mob and the Global Poker Index are a natural fit to put together. As a combined company, they truly form an authoritative hub for all poker players, particularly those who compete in live events,” he added.
Barny Boatman, co-founder of The Hendon Mob, said he and his fellow founders would continue to give “enthusiastic support” to the project.
“With the expertise, resources and commitment of the Global Poker Index, the legacy of The Hendon Mob is safe and its future is secure,” Boatman said.
The deal comes shortly after THM ended its two-year agreement with Genting, which involved an affiliate relationship and involvement in live tournaments.
“We are proud to have been part of the immensely successful Genting Poker Tour and have very much enjoyed travelling round the country meeting the players and taking part in these excellent tournaments,” the company said in a statement.
