William Hill appoints former Centrica CEO to board
Sir Roy Gardner to replace David Edmonds as senior independent non-executive director from 8 May
Former chief executive of UK energy supplier Centrica Sir Roy Gardner is to join the board of William Hill next month as a non-executive director.
Gardner will take up the position on 3 March and will replace the outgoing David Edmonds when he retires at the bookmaker’s Annual General Meeting on 8 May.
Gardner will serve as a member of the audit and risk, remuneration, nomination and corporate responsibility committees.
Gardner served as CEO of Centrica from 1997 to 2006 and was also a senior non-executive director and then chairman of Manchester United from 2000 to 2005.
He was also chairman at foodservice company Compass Group for eight years, in addition to currently holding senior positions at EnServe Group and Mainstream Renewable Power.
Gareth Davis, chairman of William Hill, said that Gardner’s previous governance and risk management experience will make him a great addition to the board.
“His vast experience in multi-national operations across different sectors will also be invaluable as we look to develop William Hill further as an innovative, international and multi-channel gambling business,” he said.
Gardner’s appointment follows the recent promotion of William Hill’s director of mobile Juergen Reutter to the newly created role of operations director for William Hill Online.
