Poll results: High roller services still of value
eGR readers say VIP services remain crucial despite Coral's decision to axe its dedicated higher roller offer
High roller and VIP services can still provide important revenue streams for operators despite their inherent risks, according to respondents to this week’s eGaming Review poll.
An overwhelming 78% said high roller services are worth the variance and risk they pose, despite seeing Coral last week shutting its offer after suffering losses of more than £10m during the third quarter of the year.
It is understood the operator also lost a substantial sum to high staking customers across the previous accounting year, with one punter believed to have cost the firm around £8m, highlighting the damage a small number of punters can inflict on a major operator’s bottom line.
However, 22% did agree with Coral’s decision and suggested other operators would be wise to follow before taking similar hits, arguing high roller services pose too much of a risk in a time of tightening margins
Providing a service to attract and accommodate large staking punters is common practice at operators, with a direct line through to traders, higher online betting limits and a credit facility usually on offer.
