Poll: Can virtual reality make a RMG breakthrough?
This week's poll asks whether VR will become a staple of online gaming content in 2017
At last week’s EGR Future Digital summit, a panel featuring three virtual reality experts talked in glowing terms about the technology’s chances of making a dent in the egaming industry.
There has been plenty of discussion about the potential of VR, with it often described as having the potential to be the next major platform following desktop and mobile.
Suppliers such as Microgaming and NetEnt have been busy building products for VR, while the Alea Gaming operated SlotsMillions offers a VR gaming lobby and plans to build VR games.
At the Future Digital summit, Alea Gaming co-founder Alexandre Tomic said it was a case of when, not if, VR makes the big egaming breakthrough, while Stoiximan product and innovation director George Kourakos revealed his firm would be releasing VR products for both gaming and sportsbook imminently.
VR headsets are becoming more easily accessible, both in terms of price and the number of firms releasing products to the market â PlayStation being the latest big-name brand to climb on board the VR train while all Android phones will soon be VR compatible.
And there can be no doubting the potential of VR, with fully immersive games having the ability to increase player session times and ultimately LVT.
However, potential is not always fulfilled and driving players from either desktop or mobile will take some shift in behavioural habits, particularly in terms of the latter with double-screening a major way gaming products are being consumed.
In addition, there will also need to be some thought given to the customer journey, for instance, how cross-sell is managed between VR and non-VR products.
With this in mind, this week’s poll asks whether VR is ready to make a big breakthrough in 2017. Have your say on the right-hand side of the page.
