PokerStars scraps regular heads-up games
Poker giant has replaced regular heads-up cash games with its Zoom variant in a bid to target more casual players
PokerStars has continued the shake-up of its poker ecosystem by removing regular heads-up cash games in a bid to attract and retain recreational players.
The operator will replace regular heads-up games with its zoom variant as it looks to combat the “widespread predatory behaviour” the games attract.
“These changes are part of PokerStars’ ongoing strategic plan to improve the poker ecosystem and enhance the player experience,” PokerStars spokesman Eric Hollreiser, said.
“We expect these changes to incentivise more players to be focused on playing poker and less focused on selecting opponents.
“Ultimately we believe this will raise the competitive bar and help increase a fun and fair playing experience for everyone,” he added.
The move is the latest in a line of changes the firm has made to its ecosystem in a bid to appeal to more casual players as part of its goal of doubling the size of the global poker market in the next five years.
Stars first announced it would undergo a major ecology overhaul in November last year, clamping down on the use of third party software and radically changing its rewards system.
Sister site Full Tilt has recently introduced a number of similar changes as it too looks to draw in more recreational players.
