Ladbrokes Coral to cut 700 London jobs
Soon-to-be merged firm inform staff approximately 50% of staff will be let go with Ladbrokes HQ set to shut
Staff at Ladbrokes’ and Gala Coral’s London offices were on Friday informed as many as 700 London-based roles will be cut following the imminent merger of the two firms, EGR has learned.
In an email to Gala Coral staff, the operator’s CEO Carl Leaver, who following the merger will lead the integration from his new position of executive chairman, said there would be “around 600, maybe up to 700, fewer positions” at the combined firm â a headcount reduction of approximately 50%.
In kick-starting the redundancy consultation process, Leaver also confirmed the expected closure of Ladbrokes’ Rayners Lane office, that the combined firm’s HQ would be Gala Coral’s Stratford base, and that a small corporate-focused office would be established on Victoria Street in central London.
EGR understands no voluntary redundancy packages will be made available with Ladbrokes staffers securing roles at the enlarged firm to be reimbursed for any additional travel expenses.
Bede Gaming bolsters exec team with two senior hires
Egaming supplier Bede Gaming has strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of a new finance director and chief operating officer (COO), eGaming Review can reveal.
Beth Crosier and Paul Dinning both joined the company last month from fellow Newcastle-based firm Sage as finance director and COO respectively as Bede looks to significantly expand its client portfolio.
“We are delighted to have recruited two excellent new members to the senior executive team at Bede,” Joe Saumarez Smith, chairman of Bede Gaming, told EGR.

Gambling Commission names dental regulator as new chair
Bill Moyes has been hired to replace Philip Graf as the new chair of Great Britain’s Gambling Commission, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport has announced.
Moyes, who starts his five-year term next month, currently serves as chair of the General Dental Council, regulator for the UK’s dental professionals.
He was previously director general and executive director of British Retail Consortium, and has held non-executive directorships with the Legal Services Board, the Priory Hospital Group and the Office of Fair Trading.
GVC hires Wonga CFO as new finance boss
GVC Holdings has recruited Wonga’s Paul Miles as its new chief financial officer, replacing outgoing finance chief Richard Cooper who has decided to step down from the role.
Miles, who will take up his new role in February 2017, has been with the payday lender since 2014 and has held a number of senior finance positions in regulated industries.
His previous roles include group financial controller at insurance group RSA Group and acting group finance director of Phoenix Group.
