New US role for bwin.party's O'Malley
Former PartyPoker poker room manager will focus on bwin.party's re-entry into the US market following MGM and Boyd deals.
Mike O’Malley, PartyPoker’s poker room manager before the passage of UIGEA, has been appointed director of special projects with bwin.party, according to an internal email seen by eGaming Review.
eGaming Review understands that O’Malley (pictured) will focus on the operator’s re-entry into the United States in what is predominantly a marketing capacity. He is also set to lead the company’s poker events team.
It is currently unclear whether or not he will be working under group poker director Chris Welch, who began his new role in September, or head of US projects Steve Heller.
bwin.party has plans in place to launch a US-facing poker platform along with input from Boyd Gaming and MGM once US regulation passed, after signing deals with the two land-based operators at the end of October.
Elsewhere, head of sponsorship and events Maximilian Höllerl is set to leave the company after more than four years, to be replaced by former international sponsorship manager Daniele Sano.
