DC could repeal egaming law
Councilman Jack Evans looking to bring repeal bill before council.
District of Columbia councilman Jack Evans has indicated that he may introduce a bill aimed at repealing the jurisdiction’s egaming legislation.
Evans appears to have the support of a number of members of the council, many of whom are believed to be upset at the way the initial bill was tagged onto existing lottery-related legislation in April’s budget.
In the several months since DC became the first US jurisdiction to legalise egaming, the legislation has divided the council, with allegations of self-interest levelled against councilman Michael Brown and a series of public hearings scheduled to discuss online gambling in the district.
Councilman Tommy Wells had also argued that the legislation “did not go through a public process”, while a hearing earlier this month found that the egaming elements of the legislation were “improperly added.“
However councilman Brown has already said that he intends to introduce a new piece of egaming legislation if Evans’ motion to repeal is successful.
