888 finalises board changes as CEO Mattingley steps down
Executive director Itai Frieberger says its business as usual as Mattingley takes up new executive chairman role
888 Holdings’ new executive director Itai Frieberger has said the company will continue to operate as normal after Brian Mattingley this week stepped down as CEO.
At the company’s annual general meeting yesterday, 888 finalised board changes announced last year which included Mattingley switching from chief executive to the new role of executive chairman following the retirement of non-executive chairman Richard Kilsby.
The changes also saw chief operating officer Frieberger appointed as a director of the company and will continue to oversee day-to-day operations along with chief financial officer Aviad Kobrine.
Independent non-executive director and former CEO of 888 John Anderson has also retired from the board.
Speaking to eGaming Review, Frieberger said he expected little to change as a result of the organisational changes. “We’ve been running like this since 2011,” Frieberger said.
“Brian [Mattingley] and I have a very clear roles and responsibilities between us and it’s been going well so I don’t expect him to be more restrictive now that’s he is the chairman,” he added.
Mattingley held the role of CEO for over three years following his appointment in March 2012 having served as deputy chairman of the company and senior independent non-executive director since March 2006.
“I am delighted to be stepping up to become Executive Chairman at such an exciting time for our business,” Mattingley said in a statement.
“We are confident that we have an industry-leading team to continue the company’s growth for years to come,” he added.
888 was recently subject to a takeover bid from UK giant William Hill but rejected the £750m offer tabled for the firm after it failed to satisfy a major shareholder.
