Poll results: Unpredictable EPL yielding positive results for industry
eGR readers believe the surprising start to the season has had a positive impact on their business
An unpredictable start to the English Premier League football season has had a positive impact on egaming operators’ business, respondents to this week’s eGaming Review poll have said.
The new EPL campaign is barely two months old yet the world’s most watched football league has already seen a number of title contenders slip up to less favoured opposition.
With this in mind, this week’s poll asked what impact the unpredictable start of the EPL season has had on your business.
According to 40% of respondents, the EPL season has been a big positive for their business and 29% claimed it had been a slight positive.
Last year’s champions, Manchester United, have already lost three times including a surprise 2-1 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion. Big spenders Manchester City have also suffered losses away to last year’s relegation fighters Aston Villa and newly promoted Cardiff City.
Meanwhile, only 3% of eGR readers claim the unpredictability has had a significant negative impact on their business and 28% said it has led to a small negative effect.
This is in contrast to Ralph Topping, CEO at William Hill, who blamed the results as a key reason for the fall in the company’s Q3 profits. “During this quarter, results were not as favourable as in the comparable period, with outcomes “ particularly in football “ going the punters’ way,” he said.
