PokerStars launches new Duel mobile app
App has been developed to attract more recreational players to the game and the brand
PokerStars is continuing on its mission to attract more casual players with the launch of its latest mobile poker app, Duel by PokerStars.
The app, which has been developed exclusively for iOS and Android, has been beta launched in Norway with plans for a wider roll-out in the coming months.
Duel by PokerStars is based on the mechanics of no limit hold’em and allows players to go one-on-one with friends or other challengers from around the world.
The app sees players compete with opponents over a set number of hands and whoever has the highest score at the end wins the duel.
The operator said Duel was part of a wider strategy to introduce the game of poker to new audiences, and to drive its self-imposed target of doubling the size of the global poker market in the next five years.
“This strategy includes serving people who want a form of poker that fits into their busy lifestyle: players who want to be able to challenge friends at their convenience, in addition to traditional forms of poker which might require longer periods of time to play,” PokerStars said.
“New players will recognise that the asynchronous ‘pick up and play’ style is more in tune with the mobile games they currently play, while the one-on-one format offers a golden opportunity to challenge their friends and win more than just bragging rights,” the firm added.
The launch comes just days after PokerStars announced it was replacing regular heads-up games with its Zoom variant, again part of its strategy to attract more recreational players.
