Unibet CMO And?n departs
Nils And?n leaves after nearly 10 years at the operator to join online currency exchange CurrencyFair.com
Unibet’s long-serving chief marketing officer Nils And?n has left the firm to join online currency exchange CurrencyFair.com, eGaming Review has learned.
And?n, who joined the operator in August 2006, officially vacated his position at Unibet on Monday, a spokesperson told EGR.
“Nils Anden will be leaving Unibet Group after 10 years with us,” the spokesperson said. “He has decided to take his career in a different direction away from the gaming industry.
“Nils has made a fantastic contribution to the growth and success of the Group over the last 10 years and we wish him every success in his new venture. No decision has been made as yet with regard to a long term replacement for his role,” the spokesperson added.
During his tenure at the Stockholm-listed firm, And?n worked in a number of marketing and product roles, including head of sales and marketing for Unibet Poker, head of poker and head of Nordics & Benelux.
And?n was named CMO of Unibet in February 2012, for which he had full P&L responsibility of the brand for four years, and has assumed the same role at his new employer.
Speaking to EGR, And?n said that while it was difficult to leave Unibet, he saw some similarities between fintech and the gaming industry.
“Leaving Unibet was a very tough decision as I was very happy with the company and the future outlook, but after 10 years I felt it was time to move on and try new challenges,” And?n said.
“Moving into fintech is a natural transition for me as it is an extremely interesting sector reminiscent of the gambling sector 10 years ago – challenging big lazy corporations,” he added.
News of And?n’s departure comes after Unibet recently reported a 13% year-on-year rise in 2015 gross winnings revenues, with the firm also spending ?78.5m on marketing during the 12-month period.
