William Hill apologises for "erroneous" customer bank withdrawals
Operator in process of refunding hundreds of customers after withdrawing monies from their bank accounts
William Hill was forced to apologise today after a withdrawal error led to hundreds of customers having funds withdrawn from their bank accounts.
This week a number of William Hill customers complained the London-listed firm had taken money from their bank accounts without notification, with some claiming nearly ?2,000 had been withdrawn.
A number of complainants also said the withdrawals led to them receiving bank charges and overdraft fees.
It is understood the issue originated from customers taking advantage of various deposit casino bonus incentives, the winnings from which should not have been withdrawable due to turnover requirements.
“There has been an erroneous withdrawal and we’ve apologised for it,” a William Hill spokesperson told eGaming Review.
“We can confirm a withdrawal of funds from a number of customers which was made in error. We’ve alerted all the impacted customers and have already reversed the withdrawals.
“However usual banking processing times will apply so the funds will take 3-5 days to clear. We will make a gesture of goodwill to the impacted customers for any inconvenience caused,” the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson was keen to stress the mistake was down to “human error” and not indicative of any fundamental problem with regards to bonusing or withdrawals at William Hill.
