WE are in an industry that is all too often viewed negatively by mainstream media. One way of breaking down the stigmas that unfortunately remain would be to go further in demonstrating the correlation between satisfied employees and a sucÂcessful operation.
At Orbis, we’ve worked hard in this regard, culminating in our incluÂsion in the UK’s Best Companies to Work For survey, featured in the Sunday Times.
Inclusion was gained alongside the likes of Microsoft, Admiral Group and Kellogg’s.
Companies that pay attention to organiÂsational policies and implement them on a conscious and concerted level to ensure that career progression and personal development are realised for all employees are more likely to gain recognition.
We have a mentoring system embedded in our infrastructure; have made a significant investment in training and education; and all of our technical managers and direcÂtors joined as software developers, many as graduates straight out of university.
Promoting from within sends out a strong message to prospective employees.
We also made the decision to devise a benefits package that includes free private healthcare, life assurance, loans, dental insurance, subsidised gym membership and performance-related pay.
As a result, Orbis has managed to achieve staff turnoÂver of just 6%.
If you decide to go for the Best Companies survey next year, be aware that the results are based on questionnaires carried out by each company’s employees.
On that count we were delighted to be ranked sixth nationally for our overall ‘Fair Deal’.
It is essential that staff find management supportive and that you talk openly and honestly with them. Inevitably, pay will also be a factor, so ensure your business’ remuÂneration policy is consistent with others in the industry “ and elsewhere.
The egaming industry is not just legitimate nowadays, it is an industry to be proud of “ it is fast-paced, extremely innovative and has proven to be highly resilient in a testÂing economy.
If we can learn to reflect this positivity through our employees and the way we run our companies, the industry as a whole will benefit.
