Betfair signs deal with Geo Networks
Fibre network will allow exchange betting operator to improve connectivity between datacentres.
Fibre network provider Geo Networks has announced that it has signed a deal to provide a fibre network connecting two of Betfair’s London-based datacentres.
The dedicated network will allow Betfair to improve IP transit connectivity between the datacentres as well as reducing latency and ensuring network availability to its customers, and develop faster data transfers between the London bases and the company’s datacentres in Ireland. The exchange betting operator becomes Geo’s second egaming client, after it signed a deal to provide Bet365 with a national fibre network last year.
Commenting on the deal, Betfair’s head of global infrastructure services Tim Turner said Geo’s network would allow the company to offer a faster, more reliable service than ever before: “Our key goals are ensuring network redundancy, reducing latency and improving reliability, on fibre that we can rely on to process today’s extremely high volumes of transactions, and scale with us tomorrow and beyond. Geo’s fibre means that we can connect with multiple carriers, transiting customers to our website based in Ireland, providing a smooth end-user experience.
“We opted for Geo firstly because its dedicated fibre is totally fit-for-purpose, being almost infinitely scalable, and secondly because we felt strategically it stood out from the rest. They even took us on a tour of the sewers to see how secure our data and network would be,” Turner explained.
Geo Networks’ online sales director Andy Tipping commented that he was “delighted” to have recruited Betfair as a client: “Geo epitomises everything that gaming and other online organisations need from a fibre operator, with our legacy-free, UK-wide network, which will soon provide the lowest latency London to Dublin connection.”
